Letterboxing

I have recently joined a Meetup Group, The Waterbury Homeschooling group. I am very excited about all the new friends Henry will make as well as all the information I am going to learn about. One such thing is a weekly hike to find a letterbox. What is a letterbox say you?

LETTERBOXING is an intriguing pastime combining navigational skills and rubber stamp artistry in a charming "treasure hunt" style outdoor quest. A wide variety of adventures can be found to suit all ages and experience levels.

Well this statement peeked my interest quite a bit, so I did some more searching on these websites:
Letterboxing. org
Atlas Quest

What a cool little hobby, just perfect for my little man. Gives us a chance for some hiking outdoors as well as a little treasure hunt to keep him excited. We did our first letterbox hunt today in Flanders Nature Center. It was so much fun. I can not wait to do another one and I am already planning our very own letterbox to plant for someone to find.

Still I am undecided as to what to make for our stamp, so for now i will be using a beehive stamp and Henry wants to use a pumpkin. I made him a sweet little book out of construction paper and scrapbook page, tied it all together with a rubber band.  I totally recommend this to anyone with children or  sense of adventure. Just think about it, the next time you go on vacation you can search for a letterbox location near you or simply leave one for others to find. Then go back to it year after year to see who's been there. Jut another way to keep us connected to each other and nature not to mention some great memories to treasure! Get it treasure...
