Thrifty Thursday ...Every Thursday I am going to post easy ways to save you some jing!!

I hate doing laundry, for me it's the worst chore to do..ever!!! But I do get some enjoyment out of it these days due to my laundry soap.
Thrifty tip....Make your own laundry soap.  It is sooooooo easy!!!
I love making my own soap and there are tons of recipes on the web. Making your own soap will save you some serious cabbage.

The soap industry would have you believe you need huge cap fulls of soap to get your laundry clean. Not only are you spending lots of money for soap to literally go down the drain, but tons of toxins are leaking into the water from the soap. Not Good. Agitation is what cleans yours clothes not the soap.
Laundry Soap making is easy breezy...
Here's what you need.
1 cup Baking soda
1 cup Washing soda
1 cup Borax
Put mix into a bag or jar and your all set. I use about 2 tablespoons per load. I wash my clothes in cold water. That's it!!!! Easy right???

If you want to get fancy, you can do a bunch of other things..you can buy castile soap, any scent and shave it down with a cheese shredder and add it to the mix. Castile soap comes in many wonderful scents like peppermint and lavender.
Fels-Naptha is a brand of bar laundry soap used for pre-treating stains on clothing and can be grated down too. Bonus, you can use it as a home remedy for exposure to poison ivy and other skin irritants.

****Just make sure that you wash your laundry in warm or hot water if you are adding shredded soaps as the flakes need to dissolve in the water.

This mixture is good for all machines and if you have a septic, even better as the borax cleans your lines and eats at the bacteria in the septic...win win!!!

Now your question is how much is this going to cost right??
Get this. Baking soda and Washing soda are $2.99 for a really large box. The Borax is $4.99 for a large box. The recipe above should last you at the very least 10-15 loads. I myself can get a few months out of 1batch.

If you don't want to make your own soap, just adding the washing soda can improve your current laundry detergent, causing you to less and in turn saving you more $$$.

Plus, the large container of Baking soda is used not only for my laundry soap but my baking needs and my household cleaning needs too.

Want another tip...add your wonderful great smelling handmade laundry soap to a jar, throw a ribbon around it. add some clothes pins and you got yourself a inexpensive, money saving, earth friendly Christmas gift. At least that's how I roll.

Girl, you are taking a page right out of my book! The only thing I would add is vinegar! A giant jug of plain white vinegar is like $2.00 and can be used to clean everything.

Love it,
